What is review markup?

Testimonials are essentially five-star reviews. Google Search works hard to understand the content of a page. By including additional review markup on your testimonials, you are providing valuable clues about the meaning of the content. And any page that Google understands better will likely perform better in search results.

Google Search can also use that information to enable special search result features and enhancements like rich snippets. Rich snippets, AKA “the stars”, appear in search results and show how many reviews you have and the average rating on a five-star scale. However, there is no guarantee that your page will have rich snippets.

The markup uses schema.org vocabulary in JSON-LD format as preferred by Google.

You can also display your aggregate rating, complete with stars, using a shortcode.
